“I started at Vecellio & Grogan in 1956. We didn’t have computers hooked up to the home office like we do today. We had to do everything ourselves out on the job. We did all the invoicing, the payroll, had our own survey crews, our own mechanics. But we got it all done and we took a lot of pride in it.”’ — Shelby Jarrell, V.P. of Construction Ranger Construction (52-year Employee)

“The transportation industry is changing, with new technologies in the field and office, longer lasting asphalt mixes, and more public-private partnerships involved in financing. But it still takes good, skilled people to go out and physically build and maintain the roads we drive on. I’m proud of the product we put in place.” — Mike Slade, President Ranger Central Division (39-year Employee)

Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century

Today, the Vecellio Group is among the top 200 contractors in the U.S. and one of the top 25 in highway construction.

Our award-winning heavy/highway construction operations include Vecellio & Grogan as the flagship company, North Carolina-based Sharpe Brothers, which joined the Group through acquisition in 2006, and Florida-based Ranger Construction Industries and Ranger Construction South, both with heritages extending back decades in their markets.

The Group is also heavily involved in the mining and energy industries. In fact, in earlier decades V&G was as much involved in coal-mining as it was in highway construction. This mining tradition continues through White Rock Quarries, based in Miami. Built from the ground up in 1986 and now one of the country’s largest mining sites, White Rock produces a variety of DOT-certified aggregates and screenings for the Florida commercial construction market.

Vecenergy is the Group’s energy division, operating in selected markets in the U.S. and abroad. Established earlier this decade, Vecenergy’s services and products include bulk petroleum storage and distribution terminals, fuel offloading and additization services, and biodiesel development.

At the core of each business unit’s success is the commitment of our valued employees to work safely and efficiently each day, providing quality services and products to customers in both the public and private sectors.

As we celebrate seven decades of integrity, quality and service, from Vecellio & Grogan’s first paving job in 1938 through today’s well-diversified portfolio of business operations across three industries, the Vecellio Group is proud to add new chapters to its legacy of success.

We look forward to the next 70 years, as the succeeding generations of leaders write many additional chapters in the great American success story that is the Vecellio Group.
